Cal Poly senior project
Concept and direction

Overview
A live design and pricing session. The client sees their proposed outdoor space at full scale and changes materials, planting, lighting, and layout while the price moves with them. Built in Unreal Engine across projected surfaces. No headsets, because these decisions get made by groups. Year-long senior project at Cal Poly. The concept and direction are mine, the build is a team. I spent two summers at a design-build landscape firm watching the same meeting fail. A designer drives out, walks the yard, takes measurements, leaves. Three days later a PDF arrives with a number at the bottom. The client has been imagining something the whole time and is now looking at a drawing of something else. Then revisions, and another three days. Here is the part you only see from the inside. In this industry design is free. The firm eats the hours whether or not the job closes, so every lost bid is not a small loss, it is a total one. The fastest lever is not designing better. It is designing fewer times per closed job. Vue is built for that. The client sits in a room and sees the yard at full scale before it exists. They move a wall, swap the planting, turn the lights to evening, and the price moves with them. The decision happens in the room, with the person paying for it sitting right there. It is not a visualization tool. The competitor is not Lumion or Twinmotion. The competitor is the current sales meeting. How it works. One scene rendered across several projected surfaces, front plus two angled sides, roughly 180 degrees. Each screen gets its own view so the perspective is correct from where the client is sitting. Built in Unreal Engine. No headsets, deliberately. A headset puts one person inside and everyone else outside. These decisions get made by couples, by families, by a client and a designer arguing about a retaining wall. The room has to hold all of them. What version one has to prove. Two things. Does sitting in the room change how a client behaves, and can the price move with the design and land close enough to be useful. One yard, one material set, one partner firm, one real client session.
