Car events and car culture, shot as it happens. Monterey Car Week every year, plus everything else. For one week in August the most valuable cars in the world sit outside on grass in Monterey, and mostly anyone can walk up to them. No ropes on a lot of it. No glass. Going back to the same events changes what you shoot. The first year you photograph the cars, because the cars are the reason you came. By the third you have seen most of them, and what is left is everything around them. The light at eight in the morning before the crowds. The face someone makes standing in front of an object they have wanted since they were a kid and will never own. It is not envy. It is closer to relief that the thing is real. This set is documentary. Cars as they are, in the places they actually sit. Dreamy Cars is the opposite of it.
